Penn College and its Shaggy Llama

Ah yes, Penn College, the school of a thousand names. Be it PCT, Penn College, or the Pennsylvania College of Technology, it is the place that has the wonderful distinction of being both my alma mater and my place of employment.  I could write volumes of text on my experiences at Williamsport's finest institution,  but today I will write just one entry.  The topic for today you ask? Why it is none other than the shaggy llama which calls Penn College home.

Shaggy Llama you ask? But of course a shaggy llama!

It is my understanding that many students graduate without ever knowing that the llama exists at all! Outrage I say! However it is understandable, as his presence is not exactly outlined in the student handbook, or listed on the web site. To be honest, it was not until my second year that I discovered the PCT's "other" mascot.

I was in the ATHS (East wing of course) pretending to pay attention to an RPG lecture when my eyes wondered out the window.  What I saw very well changed the rest of my life.  Standing on the ground below was a giant shaggy llama. As if this wasn't enough there was a person riding it! Imagine my disbelief at what I saw.  To make sure I wasn't completely loosing my mind I quickly queried my classmates to see if they also saw the shaggy llama, sure enough, it was real.

There I was, a second year student paying out the nose to go to a school which has a giant shaggy llama on display for all to see. At that point I came to realize that I probably shouldn't take my classes quite as seriously.  Well, that and I was quite convinced that I would never ever program in RPG again (Yeah, the cruel joke that my life is sometimes..)  It was quite good to know that the college has a sense of humor, as all too often it feels like they don't. There can be no other explanation as to why the llama would be displayed for all to see if not just for the humor of it.

It is also important to note that the llama and its rider closely monitor the single best spot on campus for playing Frisbee.  No other spot offers such a unique blend of room and favorable winds. For all who go to PCT, be sure to check out the Shaggy Llama on your next visit.  He hangs out between the ATHS and the PDC and is always ready for fun.  For those who can't get to Williamsport, I took a photo for your enjoyment. Um... Go Wildcats?
